MSD has been working to reduce the impact stormwater has on overflowing our combined sewers with Project Clear. This includes demolishing vacant buildings to reduce rain impervious surface and turning them into greenspaces, sometimes with the addition of native plants in rain gardens. They also offer a rainscaping grant program which helps fund  installation of rain gardens at homes, schools, churches, businesses, organizations, and government buildings to reduce excess runoff of stormwater.
